In addition to Dr Kirk’s role as a Director of the Health Services Assessment Collaboration healthsac.net he is also the Director of the University of Canterbury’s Health Sciences Centre http://www.hsci.canterbury.ac.nz/. Dr Kirk was a member of the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC), Australia, from 2001-2008. He was a member of the Community and Public Health Committee (CPHAC) of the Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) from 2001-2005. Dr Kirk is also a member of the Public Health Association of New Zealand, Health Informatics New Zealand and Health Technology Assessment International.
Dr Kirk was the foundation Director of the New Zealand Technology Assessment Unit, Christchurch School of Medicine and Health Sciences, from 1997-2005 and an International Director on the INAHTA Board (1999-2003). He was a member of the International Scientific Committee for the Annual HTAi Conference in Adelaide, Australia (July, 2006), the Abstract Review Committee for the Annual HTAi Conference in Montreal, Canada (July, 2008) and the Scientific Program Committee for the HINZ Conference in Auckland (August, 2006) and Rotorua (2007).
Dr Kirk’s expertise encompasses a broad range of techniques used in health technology assessment, health informatics, health services research and evaluation and policy based research. He has a special interest in evidence based health care and has presented widely at conferences on health technology assessment issues.
